At Storecove, growth is driven by people who aren't afraid to build something from the ground up. Few people embody that spirit better than Nikkie Bakker, Business Development Director of the US.
Nikkie's role combines leadership of global marketing operations, brand development, and US business growth. From shaping Storecove's marketing strategy to supporting prospecting efforts and contributing to the DBNAlliance, she plays a key role in helping expand Storecove's presence around the world.
For Nikkie, one of the most rewarding parts of working at Storecove has always been the culture.
"I've always felt like there was a lot of trust and confidence from the management team, and a lot of room for my own ideas and growth in my role."
That trust has allowed her to grow alongside the company, taking on new responsibilities while helping shape Storecove's evolution from a small Dutch software provider into a global e-invoicing leader
Building a Global Brand
When asked about the projects she's most proud of, Nikkie points to the work she's done building Storecove's marketing function from the ground up.
"When I started, there wasn't really a marketing department. I've worked on everything from A to Z. "
Over the years, she has helped establish Storecove’s content strategy, strengthen its brand positioning, expand awareness across international markets, and build a more structured global marketing operation
Of all those accomplishments, one stands out.
"I'm probably most proud of the SEO work. Building that from the ground up and seeing the results over time has been incredibly rewarding."

Three Words That Define Storecove
If Nikkie had to describe Storecove in three words, she would choose:
Personal. Ambitious. Courageous.
For her, everything starts with the people. The company was built by entrepreneurs with big ideas, and that entrepreneurial mindset continues to shape the organization today.
"It's been really interesting to see how the company has scaled while maintaining that culture."
At the same time, flexibility remains one of Storecove's greatest strengths. As markets evolve and customer needs change, the team continues to adapt and grow.
Growing Alongside Storecove
One thing that may surprise people about Nikkie’s role is just how long she has been part of Storecove’s journey. She joined the company long before Storecove became known as a global e-invoicing provider.
“When I first joined, Storecove had software that automatically collected and processed purchase invoices for accountants.”
As the company evolved, so did her role. Over the years, Nikkie has seen Storecove transform from a Dutch software company into an organization supporting customers across nearly every continent. That experience gives her a unique perspective on both the company’s history and the story it tells to the market today.
“We started exclusively in the Dutch market. Today, we’re active across nearly every continent.”
Telling the Storecove Story
For Nikkie, one of the most rewarding parts of her work is helping position Storecove on a global stage. She enjoys seeing the company recognized alongside some of the largest organizations in the industry.
“In many conversations, we’re mentioned alongside companies that are significantly larger than we are. That’s something I’m really proud of.”
She describes the marketing challenge simply as:
“Small business, big branding.”
Competing in a fast-moving global market requires creativity, adaptability, and a deep understanding of customer needs. For Nikkie, effective marketing is not just about promoting Storecove, but about helping businesses understand complex topics such as e-invoicing, interoperability, and global compliance.
“I’m a strong believer that real growth starts with understanding the customer and turning those insights into strategies that create real value.”
That customer-focused approach has helped Storecove grow from a Dutch software company into an international player with global visibility, built through expertise, innovation, and strong customer relationships.
Small Business, Big Branding
Marketing for Storecove comes with its own unique challenges.
Nikkie describes it as:
"Small business, big branding."
Beyond Storecove
Outside of work, Nikkie is passionate about soccer and has played as a goalkeeper for the past six years. It is a role that suits her well: fast-paced, team-oriented, and requiring calm decision-making under pressure.
For Nikkie, soccer is both a way to stay active and a reminder of the importance of trust, teamwork, and taking responsibility within a team, qualities she also brings into her work at Storecove.
One Day in Another Role
If given the opportunity to swap roles with someone at Storecove for a day, Nikkie would have a difficult time choosing.
One option would be Storecove’s CCO, Dolf Kars.
“I admire how Dolf represents Storecove at the forefront of the industry. He is a true visionary, a strong networker, and someone with deep knowledge of the e-invoicing market. His energy and excitement for the industry are contagious, and he has a way of bringing people and organizations together around a shared vision. Spending a day in his role would be a fun opportunity to experience that industry-facing perspective up close, especially through his work as Chairman of the DBNAlliance in the United States.”
Her other choice would be CEO Patrick Steenkist.
“I enjoy thinking about business strategy as a whole, and Patrick has a lot of experience in that area. I love how he works with people, connects different perspectives, and provides strategic guidance across the company. That is something I would love to keep growing into myself, because I enjoy thinking about strategies that help the company grow while also creating more value for customers.
Both roles offer distinct perspectives on leadership and growth.
Looking Ahead
For Nikkie, Storecove’s growth story is far from finished. As the company continues to expand internationally, she is excited to keep contributing to its presence in the U.S. market and beyond.
Looking ahead, she hopes to continue combining marketing, business development, and customer insights to help Storecove scale in ways that create real value for businesses around the world.
